Frequently Asked Questions

1) What is the FREE test result analysis?

Send us any test results you received from your cable contractor(pdf, flw, etc), or obtained yourself and we will look at those and analyse them for free.

Whether you're a network administrator or business owner and want to know if your cable certification tests were performed correctly by the contractor....or you're just getting some cable failures and want our opinion, we'll take a look.

Send your test results to: info@cablingcertified.com and we will get back to you as soon as we can.

2) What types of cables do you certify?

Cat5e, Cat6, Cat6A, Cat8, including MPTL or patch cord testing, Tier 1(OLTS) SM and MM. At this time we do not offer Tier 2 (OTDR) testing, as only Tier 1 is required for fiber testing per industry standards, Tier 2 is considered an optional test.

3) Do you repair any cable failures?
No, while we do have extensive experience installing structure cabling systems, in this capacity, we do not actually perform any repairs or cable replacements, we only diagnose cable failures, ideally any repairs should be done by the cable contractor who installed the system.

In the vast majority of cases, cable failures are a result of bad wiremaps or poor termination. If you wish to repair those so we can re-test while we are on site, that's perfectly fine, there is never any additional charge for same day re-tests. If in the event that failures are a result of cable damage, or a manufacturer defect in the cabling that requires replacement/repairs will take a day or more and we have to come back, then we do charge a flat $99 fee for the additional visit.

4) Can you certify existing cabling?
Yes, it is common to test older cabling to see if it can run newer applications like PoE, however, we NEVER unplug any equipment or take users offline in an active network, so you will need to have the network administrator, or owner, available to do that. If after hours or weekend testing is more convenient for you, we can arrange that as well, no additional charge.

5) What about cables located very high up in ceilings, like AP's?
If access to the cable requires more than what a 6ft ladder can reach, then the customer will need to provide that if they want those cables tested.

6) How is payment made?
An invoice will be sent via email after testing has been completed, once payment is received then we will send out the test results in a PDF document, as well as the .flw file if requested.

We maintain a record of all test results, if you ever need them in the future for any reason, just contact us.

7) Couldn't I just rent a certifier and do it myself?
Yes, however, most rental companies will charge a weekly minimum, which will run $400-$700 depending on the testing modules you get(ie copper and/or fiber). So combined with the cost of using your own technicians, it may not be as cost effective.

Also, there is a significant liability whenever you rent one of these units, which are very expensive, any damage could result in thousands of dollars in charges. Additionally, many of these companies do their own calibration, which can not really be trusted as it generally requires proprietary equipment from the manufacturer, in order to be performed properly. Many contracts will stipulate rental testers are not allowed for this reason.

8) Do I need to be present during testing?
Ideally yes but not necessarily. As long as we have access to the facility and an as-built or print with the drop locations and label numbers that would be fine.

9) When should I have my cabling system certified?

If you’re having your network cabling installed for the first time, we recommend you have it certified at the end of the job, before signing off on it. We also recommend you have your network cabling certified or recertified whenever you upgrade equipment, or want to run a new application, like PoE, 5GBASE-T, etc. If your structured cabling system was never certified but only tested with a simple verification tester, it would also be a good idea to have it tested properly and certified, especially if your having problems.
