Certification is by far the most rigorous of all types of network cable testing and demonstrates that a cabling system abides by strict standards regarding installation quality and performance.
Certification testers make various highly accurate measurements, across predefined specifications and then compare those results to an industry standard.
The testers then provide “Pass” or “Fail” information for a specific cable, in accordance with these industry standards.
In the United States, these cabling standards are set forth by the Telecommunications Industry Association(ANSI/TIA/EIA-568-B)
Certification provides a detailed look at the overall quality of the structured cabling system as a whole, while also identifying any poor workmanship or damage that may have occured during, or after installation.
Cable certification provides assurance that the applications themselves (Gigabit Ethernet, 5GBASE-T, 10GBASE-T, PoE, etc) will run properly and as expected.
Additionally, certification, with an approved tester, is often required by most cabling manufacturers in order to receive their warranties. Many of these warranties are 15, 20 or even 25 years and will last the lifespan of the cable plant, this alone provides a high degree of peace of mind.
